Calijon Falls in Malvar, Batangas

I bet this one is not in your travel list. I'm sure that you will go to this place out of curiosity because you asked Google what are the waterfalls in Batangas and it happens that you just live nearby. Same thing here. It was one of those not so hot but lazy afternoon. We live in the boundary of Lipa and Malvar and this one is just 20 minutes away from home.

The reviews aren't so nice about the cleanliness of the place but we did go anyway. From Malvar exit, turn right if you're coming from Manila or drive ahead if you're from the National Road until you get to a Y road. At the right side,  there's a welcome arch for Brgy San Gregorio (Formerly Brgy Calijon). Just keep on driving and always ask for directions from time to time because the exact place is very tricky to find. The landmark was a sari sari store at the right side of the road with a half basketball court.

At the left side of the sari sari store is a plight of stairs going down to the falls. According to some local boys, it is around 365 steps. As we descend the stairs, the view of the other side of the mountain is simply amazing.

I was amazed when we reached the waterfalls because it isn't as dirty as what the online reviews said. The only trash that I saw were dried leaves stuck at a man made small dam of stones. And the waterfalls was quite a sight with a grotto of Mother Mary at the base. We climb up to the source of the waterfalls which is a spring from the mountainside. So basically, this waterfall is very clean because the water source is directly from underground. Unlike other waterfalls  that came from rivers where people and animals bath or worst, defecate. We had fun swimming in the small river. The river was clear because it wasn't raining. And some boys joined us and we helped them catch fish. This place is absolutely free. I hope that the barangay people will develop or maintain the place. And oh, there are lots of lanzones trees and we got some.  Trust me, the lanzones here are the sweetest.
