Butandings or Whale Sharks are the largest living non mammalian vertebrae which feeds on small fishes, planktons, fish eggs or sperms. Whale shark watching in Tan-awan, Oslob started around 2011. Oslob is 2-3 hours away from Cebu City. Tourists then flock the place to watch the whale sharks while being fed or to dive with them. Whale shark watching is daily from 6AM to 12NN only.
When we arrived in Tan-awan, we first attended a brief seminar on the things that we should not do while diving with the whale sharks. It includes not putting on any sunscreen, stay 4 meters away from the whale sharks, no flash photography, no feeding from tourist boats, no throwing of garbage and of course no touching & hurting the whale sharks. The spot where the fishermen feed the whale sharks is just around 20 meters away from the shore.
