The Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos, Ilocos Norte is the oldest Spanish constructed lighthouse in the Philippines that is still operational as of today. It was built in 1892 at the summit of the Vigia de Nagpartian Hill overlooking Cape Bojeador and was very helpful as it guides the incoming galleons to steer away from the rocky coast of Northwest Luzon. Until today, it still guides the incoming international ships but it is now powered by solar panels instead of the pressurized kerosene lamps that were used in the older days. This lighthouse was declared as a National Historical Landmark in 2004.

To get to the lighthouse from the Maharlika Highway in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, turn right once you see the sign going to the winding road that leads to the lighthouse in Brgy Paayas. Be careful though because there are a lot of ghost stories about this lighthouse. But the beauty of Ilocos Norte and the West Philippine Sea as viewed from the lighthouse is enough to momentarily forget the eerie feeling once you climb the old structure.
